Carabuena suspended from Philip Morris, faces license revocation

GoldClub50 :: GC50 banner_001
By Kim Arveen Patria | Yahoo! Southeast Asia Newsroom

Apart from direct assault charges filed by the Metro Manila Development Authority and being bullied online, Robert Blair Carabuena has a bigger problem.

Carabuena, the motorist who was caught on video hitting traffic enforcer Saturnino "Sonny" Fabros, has been suspended from work Thursday. On top of that, he might also just lose his driver's license.

Cigarette maker Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. (PMFTC) said it has suspended its executive, "pending the outcome of the investigation."

It noted, however, that Carabuena was "on his personal time and not on duty for the company at the time."

A video of Carabuena mauling traffic enforcer Saturnino Fabros has been spreading through social networking sites since Tuesday.

Fabros said he told Carabuena off for making a wrong turn near Tandang Sora in Quezon City.

"PMFTC reiterates that it does not condone inappropriate conduct by any of our employees," the company said.

The suspension came a day after a petition dubbed "Robert Blair Carabuena is Bad for your Corporate Health", which urges PMFTC to fire Carabuena, made rounds online.

"[Carabuena] has now also become the poster boy of Philip Morris International (PMI). His behavior is a disservice to the corporate image of PMI and the global goodwill it has earned all these years. We call on PMI to immediately act on this unforgivable incident and accordingly fire him," the petition said.

Meanwhile, MMDA already asked the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to revoke Carbuena's license, Yves Gonzales, head of the MMDA traffic disclipline office told Yahoo! Southeast Asia in a phone interview.

"MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino has drafted a letter to LTO Assistant Secretary Virginia Santos, asking them to look into the case and if possible revoke the license," Gonzales said.

The LTO also confirmed that licenses may be revoked under certain grounds.

"Pwede po talagang i-revoke ang license, kung halimbawa gumamit ka ng sasakyan na ginamit sa krimen (Licenses may indeed be revoked, such as in cases when motorists use vehicles identified in criminal cases)," Daisy Jacobo, chief of LTO's traffic safety division.

Tolentino on Wednesday said "abusive and arrogant motorists like him (Carabuena), who obviously do not have serious regard to the rule of law, have no right to be in the road in the first place."

[MediaFire] Moron 5 and the Crying Lady (2012) [Tagalog] DVDRip

Plot:
Half-witted longtime friends Albert (Luis Manzano), Isaac (Billy Joe), Mozart “Mo” (DJ Durano), Michaelangelo “Mike” (Martin Escudero) and Aristotle“Aris” (Marvin Agustin) were used to living moronic yet pretty normal and hassle-free lives until successful careerwoman Becky Pamintuan (John Lapus) accused them of killing her father and ruin everything for them. The Moron 5 are more than sure of their innocence but for the life of them, they can't find any single satisfactory argument on how to prove it especially when their opponent would do everything to punish them for whim. Spending three miserable years in prison trying different failed comedic attempts to get out, they finally figured a way to escape. They stalked Becky and tried to understand why she's fighting so hard to have them imprisoned when it's clear as day that what happened three years ago was a nonsense frame-up. An opportunity came when Becky's driver got fired for having an affair with her maid and Albert volunteered to apply to replace him. He infiltrated the Pamintuan Residence and together with his four crazily daft friends, they've gathered information about the curious family yet to them, it isn't making any sense at all especially Becky's unexplained hatred to the five of them. Why is Becky fighting so hard to have them suffer? The Moron 5 will try their hardest to know and hopefully understand what's really going on although little did they know that by doing so, everything that they hold dear might be at risk.

Heavy rains trigger red alert over Metro Manila

By Jojo Malig, ABS-CBNnews.com

MANILA, Philippines (4th UPDATE) - State weather bureau PAGASA on Monday night raised the red warning signal over Metro Manila because of heavy rains.
In its latest advisory issued 11:30 p.m., the weather agency said heavy and intense rains were observed over the metropolis Monday.
PAGASA said torrential rains with a volume of 40.4mm was recorded in Manila in the past hour. Quezon City received 26.0 mm of rainfall, Taguig got 24.64mm, while 10mm to 30mm per hour of rainfall was observed over the rest of Metro Manila.
Earlier in the night, an accumulated rainfall of 83.5 mm was recorded in Quezon City while Marikina got 63.5mm in the past 3 hours,
PAGASA expects the heavy rains to continue throughout the night.
It warned of flooding in low-lying areas and those located near the river channels.
"Residents in high risk areas are advised to take precautionary measures, monitor the weather condition, and watch out for the next warning," the weather bureau said.
Moderate to heavy rains also fell in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Mountain Province, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bulacan, PAGASA said.
La Mesa Dam overflows
The heavy rains have already caused water at La Mesa Dam to overflow Monday night, prompting authorities to raise flood warnings in nearby areas.
Water inside the dam reached its spilling level of 80.15 meters around 7 p.m. Monday night, forcing La Mesa management to release water into the Tullahan river.
It is expected to cause floods in Greater Fairview, North Fairview, Novaliches, and Gulod, San Bartolome, Sta. Monica, and Sta. Lucia up to Valenzuela and Malabon where the Tullahan River passes, dam official George Lantin said.
Meanwhile, flood monitoring at the the Marikina River reached second alarm Monday night after the Sto. Niño station water level measurement reached 16.01 meters.
The heavy downpour triggered floods in parts of Metro Manila, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
The heavy rains are caused by the shallow low pressure area  and the southwest monsoon affecting Luzon and the Visayas, PAGASA said.
Evacuation
Heavy rains since Sunday night have forced more than 5,000 people in Metro Manila to leave their homes, a relief official said.
Floods have affected residents of  Navotas,Malabon, Manila, Marikina, Valenzuela City, Quezon City, and Muntinlupa City, according to Director Susana Cruz, chief of the Office of Civil Defense-National Capital Region.
Heavy rains also prompted school officials to suspend classes in Manila, Muntinlupa City, Marikina City, Malabon City, Pateros town and Mandaluyong City, Cruz said.
Benito Ramos, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council executive officer, said heavy rains have affected 193,682 families or 867,799 persons nationwide since last week. - with a report from Arnell Ozaeta, radio dzMM

Pearson and Rudisha ease through - London 2012 Olympics

Sally Pearson and David Rudisha showed just why they are the two hottest track favourites for gold at London 2012 by making comfortable progress at the Olympic Stadium
Sally Pearson
The Australian blew away the rest of the field in the heats of the women's 100m Hurdles, recording the fastest time at the Olympic Stadium.
Pearson clocked the fastest-ever first-round time in Olympic history for the 100m Hurdles, running 12.57 to reach the semi-finals.
Rudisha, the world 800m record holder, controlled his heat from start to finish to win in 1:45.90.
Pearson has gone into the Games having suffered only two defeats in two years, although the last of those came in her recent outing at Crystal Palace.
She said: 'I was nervous about the first race. There's no more work to do, this is it.
'Tomorrow is another day at the office. I'm through to the semi-final round now, I want to get it done and dusted.'
The Australian, who has an English mother, was given a huge roar when introduced to the crowd.
'It's really nice to have support when you're on the other side of the world,' she added.
There was a major casualty in the hurdles, though, with Jamaican Brigitte Foster-Hylton, second in the world rankings, clattering the fifth hurdle and trailing home seventh.
She was distraught at the finish and American Lolo Jones tried to console her.
She said: 'I'm heartbroken for Brigitte. I'm devastated for her.
'Honestly, the emotions were out for her. If she had punched me I would have understood.'
Another leading contender went out in the heats of the 1500m as Ethiopia'sGenzebe Dibaba trailed home 10th, clutching her leg and apparently injured at the end.
World champion Jennifer Simpson only just made it through, finishing sixth in her heat.
'It's definitely not OK,' the American said. 'How can I have made this big mistake? I made it so I just about got away with it. What's done is done.'
Estonia's reigning Olympic champion Gerd Kanter was the most impressive qualifier in the Discus with a throw of 66.39m.
Belarus' Nadzeya Ostapchuk topped the women's Shot Put qualifying with 20.76m.

Day 10 Preview: Another golden day awaits

Another 18 gold medals are up for grabs and 20 sports are on the schedule as London 2012 enters its second full week.

Elena Isinbayeva of Russia competes in the women's Pole Vault qualification
Elena Isinbayeva of Russia competes in the women's Pole Vault qualification on Day 8 of the London 2012 Olympic Games at Olympic Stadium
Elena Isinbayeva will be one of the biggest names on show in the Olympic Stadium as she aims for a third successive gold medal in the women’s Pole Vault.
The world record-holder is the only one of the 12 finalists to have cleared five metres but if she fails to produce her best form then Germany’s Silke Spiegelburg, Jennifer Suhr of the USA and Great Britain youngster Holly Bleasdale will hope to take advantage.
Great Britain’s team captain Dai Greene will get a chance to deliver further home success in the final of the men’s 400m Hurdles, although the Welshman will need to improve after only finishing fourth in his semi-final.
He faces competition from the likes of 2004 Olympic champion Felix Sanchez, who was the fastest qualifier with the quickest time in the world this year, and Javier Culson.
Other medals to be handed out in Athletics come in the men’s 400m, the women’s Shot Put and 3000m Steeplechase.
Three of the gold medals on offer on Day 10 are in Artistic Gymnastics, with the finals of the men’s Rings and Vault and the women’s Uneven Bars.
The home crowd will be hoping to cheer Beth Tweddle to victory in the latter, but He Kexin of China, the reigning Olympic champion, and Viktoria Komova of Russia will also be targeting gold.
In the women’s Hockey, Argentina and Australia go head-to-head for semi-final places in the final round of matches in Pool B. A draw would take Argentina through but Australia need to win, unless Germany beat New Zealand in which case a point would suffice.
The situation is equally tense in Pool A and much rests on China's encounter with Japan. A victory will put the Beijing silver medallists into second place in the group, which would mean Great Britain would need at least a draw against defending champions the Netherlands to qualify.
In Shooting, the final of the men's Trap follows the conclusion of the men’s 50m Rifle Three Positions and will bring the curtain down on 10 days of competition at the Royal Artillery Barracks, and the pick of the Track Cycling programme at the Velodrome is the men’s Sprint.
There are also three finals in the Greco-Roman Wrestling in the 60kg, 84kg and 120kg weight divisions, while the men’s Laser and the women’s Laser Radial classes conclude in Sailing.
The finalists in the women’s Football will be decided as France face Japan at Wembley before Canada take on the USA at Old Trafford.
